Sir,
With reference to your recent letter (received in this Department on the 6th July) regarding the whereabouts of your daughter, Mrs. J.I. Barnes, I am directed by Lord Lloyd to inform you that lists of persons evacuated from Hong Kong have not yet been received in this country and that it is not possible to say definitely whether Mrs. Barnes and her children
The evacuation plan was intended to over 211 European women and children not essential to the defence of the Colony, tek persone were taken in the first instance to Manila and arrangements are being made for their, transfer from there to Australia. It is regretted that it is not possible to give you any advice in regard to cabling money to Mrs. Barnes.

I am to add that His Majesty's Consul-General at Manila has been instructed to suggest to persons evacuated from Hong Kong that in view of the difficulty in referring to him enquiries from persons in this country regarding the whereabouts and welfare, they should telegraph to any relatives in this country whom anxiety they may wish to allay.
